Total ETF Assets Decline in September

Total exchange-traded fund assets declined over $9 billion in September to about $82 billion, according to the Investment Company Institute. The ICI, the trade group for the mutual fund industry, keeps monthly tabs on ETF assets.

ETFs tied to equity indexes lost $9.35 billion for the month amidst a continuing bear market, while the bond ETF assets increased by $321 million to $3.93 billion.

During September, the value of all ETF shares issued was $5.97 billion, while the value of shares redeemed for the month totaled $5.52 billion, for a net issuance of $453 million.
